Forbackground: I purchased my car new in 2016. It has 155,000km on it and has been pretty reliable until about 14 months ago. My first issue was with the upstream O2 sensor according to my ODB-II. It was causing my rpm’s to be very erratic when idling, noticeable loss of power, fuel economy was going down .

Ipicked up a 2014/15 Ford Focus Titanium 1.0 with about 50K miles for about £5200 just 4 months back. That's with a brand new engine fitted by Ford with receipts, a full service history, no issues with bodywork and clean MOT. I know prices have increased somewhat but I'd still expect you to be able to get a better example for that sort of money.
Itis one of the last truly bad cars. Reliability is so-so, but the worst part is the extremely crappy interior. You would do so much better with a 2010+ Corolla or Civic, which are nicer and more reliable. If you don't want repairs get a Toyota. Even the Toyota Yaris is worlds better than the Versa. 2.

Themain issue you'll face is the PTU blowing up. Ford doesn't specify a service interval, and makes it extremely annoying to change the fluid in them. With the kind of driving you do in the SHO, you'll burn it up quick without regular 50K mile fluid changes. Otherwise the Turbo 3.5 is actually pretty stout.

Ive got a 2017 and it has been quite reliable thus far. I just went past 26k miles on it and I love the gas mileage. My 2017 is an auto with 96k miles. Regular maintenance and zero problems. SE model with the 2L 4 cyl engine. Wish I had found a manual when I bought it but the dealer said they didn’t even sell the focus in manual in the US.
